The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO's member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.
The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:

Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)
The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO’s principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.
To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise's: NATO International Civilians (NIC)'s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)'s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.

Role Background
NCI Agency is seeking a DCIS Infrastructure Engineer to join the NISC/ID&E/OPEX team supporting NATO's Deployable CIS (DCIS) systems. In this role, you will provide expert engineering support across the full lifecycle of new IT baselines — design, testing, implementation, deployment and ongoing support — spanning infrastructure, platform, authentication, web hosting, cyber hygiene and remote desktop solutions, while acting as senior problem-solver for a DevOps-oriented technical team.
Role Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide professional and technical contributions to the design, development and execution of DCIS engineering projects.
- Contribute to and participate in a DevOps environment using continuous integration, continuous change management, deployment automation and system monitoring.
- Support junior staff with incident management, service request and problem management processes as the senior engineer and ultimate problem solver.
- Provide DCIS engineering support to technically plan and execute NATO-approved exercises, on-site or remote.
- Document designs and implementations of assigned services, as well as troubleshooting guides.
- Plan, schedule, participate in and lead technical support teams in support of projects and exercises.
- Provide on-the-job training as needed to maintain a highly skilled and trained technical support function.
- Deputize for higher-grade staff as required.
- Perform other duties as may be required.
Essential Skills, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree from a nationally recognised/certified university in a related discipline plus 2 years' post-related experience; alternatively, at least 6 years of extensive and progressive relevant expertise in lieu of a degree.
- At least 5 years' experience supporting and implementing in deployable or large enterprise environments, including: centralized storage (FC, iSCSI, SAS, or hyper-converged/vSAN); recent virtualization technologies (VMware ESXi and vCentre); recent Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Linux; expert directory/identity/access management across interconnected and federated Active Directory domains and forests; expert DNS resolution, server hardening, AD troubleshooting and GPO development; Microsoft Remote Desktop or related application provisioning technology; high-availability systems (fail-over clustering, Database Availability Groups, stretched clusters, etc.); and Windows patching and anti-malware update systems.
- At least 3 years' active participation in a DevOps team, with demonstrable Bash or PowerShell scripting and experience with automation/orchestration tools.
- Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP networking principles.
- Knowledge of the ITIL IT service management model and applied knowledge of Service Transition.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including technical manuals.
- Highly desirable: ITIL Service Operation certification; COTS certifications such as Microsoft MCSA/MCSE, VMware VCP, or Cisco CCDA/CCNA.
- Highly desirable: hands-on experience with Ansible for configuration management/orchestration of Red Hat Linux and Windows, and/or expert-level VMware environment design and troubleshooting.
- Desirable: prior experience maintaining Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint Server and ADFS environments.
- Desirable: prior experience with Veeam Backup & Replication or alternative backup solutions such as Rubrik.
- Desirable: prior experience in a deployed exercise or operations environment, and in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements.
- Desirable: knowledge of NATO responsibilities and organization, including ACO and ACT.
