Director, Software Engineering, Search Logs Data Platform

Google Search is constantly evolving, and the foundational data infrastructure that powers it must evolve just as rapidly. We are seeking an experienced infrastructure leader to serve as the Director of Software Engineering for the Search Logging Platform and Data Warehouse.

In this critical role, you will own the end-to-end strategy, architecture, and execution of the massive-scale systems that process, store, and serve Search logging data. You will act as a pivotal change-agent, ensuring our data platforms seamlessly adapt to rapid product changes, new partnerships, and an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. As a cross-functional leader, you will partner closely with product teams, data science, and compliance to ensure our data infrastructure empowers innovation while maintaining the highest standards of governance.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $307000 - $427000 (USD) + 30% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Set the technical and organizational strategy for the Search logging platform and data warehouse, overseeing large-scale data processing systems and analytics platforms.
• Act as a change-agent to help the team and infrastructure adapt swiftly to rapid product shifts, new business partnerships, and scaling requirements.
• Serve as the primary interface and strategic partner for key stakeholders, translating the complex needs of (a) data science and analytics, (b) the regulatory and compliance environment, and (c) fast-paced product development into robust infrastructure solutions.
• Build, manage, and inspire a high-performing engineering organization. Cultivate a culture of technical excellence, with a strong emphasis on attracting, mentoring, and nurturing exceptional engineering talent and future leaders.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of professional software engineering experience.
• 10 years of experience as an engineering leader.
• Experience as an infrastructure engineering leader, specifically running large-scale data warehouses, data processing systems, or enterprise analytics platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience building systems that comply with complex global regulatory, privacy, and data governance standards.
• Deep understanding of the intersection between data infrastructure, data science, and advanced analytics.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align disparate teams around a unified technical vision.
