Senior Staff Software Engineer, Android Connectivity

With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

In this role as a Senior Staff Engineer, you will drive the evolution of connectivity for Android and Pixel devices. By collaborating with key industry partners—including device manufacturers, carriers, and chipset vendors—you will lead the deployment of advanced features and technologies. You will establish and execute a strategic technology roadmap to maintain Google's position at the forefront of connectivity innovation. This position requires strong direct technical expertise to deliver leadership across key initiatives.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $262000 - $364000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Establish the technical goal, direction, and strategy for platform and pixel telephony, driving internet connectivity and cellular innovation forward. Guarantee the timely delivery and high quality of all connectivity components to satisfy strict market schedules.
• Architect and define protocols, APIs, and algorithms for current devices to support seamless upgrades to future Android versions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, program management, and product management teams to produce high-quality solutions efficiently. Foster a culture of creativity and inspire innovation among team members.
• Drive internal AI transformation, completely rethinking how our organization builds, tests, and deploys software.
• Provide domain leadership across Google and represent Android connectivity in industry alliances, setting standards for next-generation wireless technologies. Elevate the engineering culture by mentoring engineers, developing the next generation of technical leadership within the organization.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
  
• 7 years of experience with Android application development.
• 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
• 5 years of experience with internet and cellular connectivity, mobile/voice/messaging networks/systems engineering, or operations.
• 5 years of experience in Android OS development.

Preferred qualifications:

• 10 years of experience with technical leadership in platform and product development in consumer electronics or connectivity domains.
• 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Experience within the mobile industry ecosystem, working closely with chipset partners, OEMs and carrier partners.
• Experience influencing 3GPP standards, IETF on cellular and connectivity domains.
• Ability to manage multiple complex assignments simultaneously and to work with geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams.
