Lead Data Scientist / Data Architect

Location: Suitland, MD | Hybrid

About the Role

Essnova Solutions is seeking experienced Data Scientists and Data Architects to support a large-scale federal data and technology modernization initiative supporting the U.S. Census Bureau.

We are seeking senior professionals who can help modernize complex data environments, develop advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities, and design scalable enterprise data platforms.

Opportunities are available for both Lead Data Scientists and Senior Data Architects, depending on experience and technical specialization.

What You’ll Do

• Design and support modern enterprise data and analytics solutions.
• Work with large, complex datasets in enterprise environments.
• Support modernization of data platforms and architectures.
• Develop scalable approaches to data integration, analytics, and management.
• Collaborate with cloud, engineering, application, architecture, and program teams.
• Support advanced analytics and AI/ML initiatives.
• Develop technical documentation, architecture designs, analytical models, and recommendations.
• Support development of scalable data platforms and advanced analytical capabilities.

Work Location

This position supports the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland under a hybrid work model. Candidates must be located in the DC/MD/VA area or be willing to commute to Suitland.

Requirements

Lead Data Scientist Qualifications

Candidates interested in the Lead Data Scientist – SME opportunity must have:

• PhD – required
• 15+ years of relevant experience – required
• Senior/SME-level data science experience
• Advanced experience with:
• Machine Learning
• Deep Learning
• Advanced data analytics

Experience in the following areas is particularly valuable:

• Large Language Models (LLMs)
• MLOps
• LLMOps
• Large-scale data analytics
• Census data analytics

Please note: A PhD and 15+ years of relevant experience are mandatory requirements for the Lead Data Scientist opportunity.

Senior Data Architect Qualifications

Candidates interested in the Lead Data Architect – Senior opportunity should have:

• 10–14 years of relevant experience
• Senior-level enterprise data architecture experience
• Experience designing and supporting complex enterprise data environments

Experience in the following technologies and environments is particularly valuable:

• Enterprise Data Lakes
• Apache Iceberg
• Amazon Redshift
• Amazon Aurora
• PostgreSQL
• Oracle 19c/RAC
• Knowledge graphs
