Building the Future of Open Finance

Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.

Before you apply, we encourage you to explore our culture page to understand what drives us and how we work.

The team

Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

The Consumer Mobile team builds the Kraken app, the interface millions of people use to interact with their money. We work primarily in React Native, building products that make complex financial experiences intuitive, fast and trustworthy.

We're a product-minded engineering team. Our engineers don't just implement requirements: they work closely with Product and Design to understand the problem behind them, challenge assumptions, shape solutions and measure whether what we ship actually improves the experience for our clients.

The opportunity

  • We're looking for a Senior React Native Engineer who thinks like a product builder.

  • You'll work across engineering, product and design to turn real client problems into thoughtful mobile experiences, comfortable starting with an ambiguous problem rather than a perfectly defined specification.

  • You'll own features end-to-end, from understanding the problem and shaping the solution through implementation, launch and iteration, using data and client feedback to drive improvements.

  • You'll build high-quality experiences in React Native across a financial product where responsiveness, reliability and trust matter, whether improving product discovery, creating trading experiences, or simplifying journeys.

  • You'll partner closely with Product and Design, contributing engineering perspectives early in the product-development process rather than waiting for finished requirements.

  • You'll work with APIs and real-time data to create responsive, data-rich mobile experiences, making thoughtful decisions around state management, rendering, performance and architecture.

  • You'll operate with the ownership and versatility of a product engineer, comfortable wearing multiple hats and moving between product problems and technical challenges.

  • You'll help raise the product-engineering bar across Consumer Mobile through technical discussions, code reviews, collaboration and by demonstrating strong product ownership.

What you bring

  • Strong React Native experience. You've built and shipped meaningful production applications using React Native and are comfortable making architectural and implementation decisions across a modern mobile codebase.

  • A product-building mindset with strong product judgment. You start with the client problem rather than the ticket, understand what we're actually trying to solve, know when to challenge requirements or simplify solutions, and work with Product and Design to turn ambiguous requirements into strong engineering solutions.

  • Evidence of product impact. You can explain not only what you've built, but why you built it and what happened afterwards. You're comfortable using metrics, experimentation and client behaviour to evaluate the impact of your work.

  • End-to-end ownership. You're comfortable working across the lifecycle of a feature: discovery, technical design, implementation, launch, measurement and iteration.

  • Comfort with data-rich applications. You've worked with APIs and dynamic or real-time data and understand the engineering considerations involved in turning that data into responsive client experiences.

  • Close collaboration with Product and Design. You enjoy working directly with designers and product managers, see building great products as a shared responsibility, and communicate effectively in written and verbal English across a globally distributed team.

  • Versatility and AI proficiency. You're comfortable moving beyond a narrowly defined engineering remit, use AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.) thoughtfully to move faster while retaining ownership of engineering decisions and quality, and thrive in environments where you wear multiple hats.

  • A track record of taking loosely defined product problems and turning them into features or products that delivered measurable client impact.

Nice to have

  • Experience building products in fintech, trading, crypto, payments or another financial technology environment.

  • An understanding of how trading, investing or financial products work and an interest in the problems our clients are trying to solve.

  • Experience with real-time or streaming data and building interfaces where information changes rapidly.

  • Experience working across both mobile and web, bringing valuable perspective from broader frontend or product-engineering work.

  • Experience in a startup or small-to-medium-sized technology company where engineers work closely with Product and Design.

  • Native mobile experience in Swift or Kotlin and an understanding of when dropping below the React Native layer is the right engineering decision.

  • Experience improving application performance, responsiveness and reliability across a range of mobile devices.

  • A background in taking loosely defined product problems and turning them into products or features with measurable client impact.

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
