Brief info about Vinted

Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:

Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.

Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.

Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.

Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people.

Information about the position

We're searching for a Senior Backend Engineer to join Albatross, the User Journey team in Vinted Pay. We are the front door to Vinted Pay: Albatross owns how millions of Vinted members become verified users - onboarding, balance activation, identity verification, duplicate account detection, offboarding and the whole account lifecycle.

We're in early stages still. We're launching new markets and migrating millions of users from external payment providers, so the systems we build now are the ones that will carry Vinted Pay for years. We're rebuilding our core flows as durable Temporal workflows and migrating our main Ruby service to Go - there's real architectural work here, not just feature delivery.

Problems arrive ambiguous. Engineers here aren't handed specs - they work out what's actually needed together with product and compliance, align it across teams, and build it.

In this position, you’ll

  • Work in a team of 5-6 backend engineers, engineering manager, product manager and decision scientist.
  • Build account, KYC, and verification flows in Ruby and Go, and orchestrate them as durable Temporal workflows across services.
  • Own topics end-to-end: from an ambiguous requirement to a written proposal, cross-team alignment, implementation, and monitoring in production.
  • Work in AI-assisted way: agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex and others) are part of the daily workflow here - for building, debugging, investigating production issues, and writing docs. We expect you to use them well and make the team better at it.
  • See your code affect millions of users almost instantly. Our main branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge. We deploy many times per day.
  • Work with diverse tech stack: Go and Ruby languages, AWS cloud infrastructure, MySQL, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka, Temporal, Prometheus, Grafana. We don't expect you to be familiar with all of them beforehand, but we expect you will be excited to learn them fast.
  • Write unit tests for all of the code you write and contribute to integration and E2E test writing and its usage.
  • Take ownership of critical alerts and business metrics for your team to ensure our services achieve 99.99% availability.
  • You will participate in on-call rotations to ensure our product performs well.

About you

  • You take ownership of features and projects from start to finish, you break problems down so others can tackle them too - not just you.
  • You navigate ambiguity well - given a vague requirement, you extract the real need, propose a solution with trade-offs, and drive it to agreement.
  • You think like a product engineer - you ask why before how, question requirements that don't make sense, and care about what the user and the business actually get - not just that the ticket is closed.
  • You know at least one language deeply and you're comfortable with API design, caching, and system architecture. Experience with Ruby and/or Go is a significant advantage.
  • You are a pragmatic problem solver - you think practically, choose the best solutions, avoid over-engineering, and prioritize simplicity.
  • You document what you build - proposals, RFCs, ADRs - so the next person doesn't have to reverse-engineer your thinking.
  • You care about observability and monitoring - if something breaks, your team shouldn't be flying blind.
  • You are fluent with AI tooling and agentic workflows - you use them consciously to multiply your output and you raise the team's level with what you learn.
  • You have excellent written and spoken English.
  • Advantage: you have experience in payments, fintech, KYC/AML, or another regulated domain.

Work perks

  • The opportunity to benefit from our share options programme
  • 25 working days of holiday
  • Access to all the tools & tech needed for work
