Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure, Spanner Analytics

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. Spanner combines the power and familiarity of relational databases with horizontal scalability typical of non-relational stores. It is the first scalable, enterprise grade, globally distributed, and strongly consistent database service. The Spanner Analytics team's mission is to unify transactional and analytical workloads to allow real-time insights and a serving of operational and lakehouse data. We work closely with internal and external customers to ensure analytic queries scale and perform on exabytes of data.

US: $174000 - $252000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Write product or system development code.
• Participate in or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on the available technologies.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of programming experience in C++.
• 3 years of experience in architecting and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems (storage, databases etc).
• Experience with cloud databases, performance optimization, and benchmarking.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• Experience designing and developing relational databases, database internals, query processing and query optimization.
• Experience building transaction processing systems (OLTP) or larger scale analytics (OLAP).
• Experience building data warehousing systems (e.g., Spark, BigQuery).
• Experience in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.
