Role Overview

The Data Analyst will work with analytics, marketing, and business leaders, other analysts, developers, architects, project managers, and stakeholders to design, develop, and deliver custom reporting and analytics solutions for customers in the Convenience Retail and Major Oil verticals, including the analytics that support mobile payments for fuel and convenience stores.

The Data Analyst will act as the SME for the Convenience Retail and Major Oil businesses and the analytics needs of these verticals. They will be responsible for interfacing with customers to understand their needs, designing and developing the technical solutions to meet these needs, overseeing external resources to ensure timely delivery of commitments, unit testing the analytics solutions, and documenting the developed solutions. They will also be responsible for keeping these BI solutions tuned for optimal performance on the Azure data platform on an ongoing basis. This role will also work closely with marketing and CRM teams to help build and supply audiences for campaigns that will subsequently be measured for effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Build audience segments used for targeted communications/campaigns across Email, SMS, and push messaging campaigns

• Work with the CRM team to manage audience transfers to the consumer marketing platform (Salesforce Marketing Cloud)

• Function as the SME for the Convenience Retail and Major Oil verticals, the guided analytics and reporting solutions for these customers, and any custom analytics being built for customers

• Function as the SME for the reporting associated with promotional services

• Support the reporting and analytics for mobile payments across fuel and convenience, building the data assets, dashboards, and metrics that track adoption, transaction activity, and program performance

• Act as a general analytics and visualization SME

• Interface with customers to understand their needs and translate them into requirements

• Design, develop, test, and maintain BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations in Sigma Computing and Power BI

• Write and tune SQL (T-SQL and Spark SQL) to prepare, transform, and validate data supporting reporting and audience-building

• Work with other team members to ensure that reports, templates, and dashboards meet business requirements

• Assist the analytics leadership team and the operations analyst with service design, development, and delivery of new services as needed • Research and recognize data issues and discrepancies represented in reports; perform the necessary validation

• Create one-time reports and data extracts per request

• Understand the underlying data structures well enough to build new reports independently

• Add informative insight and analysis to distributed reports

Requirements

• Strong self-starter with high learning agility

• Strong problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to automate manual and repetitive processes

• 3–5 years of BI/Analytics experience

• 3–5 years' experience on a BI or analytics team with a good understanding of BI principles, architecture, best practices, processes, and standards

• Strong knowledge of SQL, including T-SQL (SQL Server / Synapse) and Spark SQL (Databricks)

• Hands-on experience with Sigma Computing and Power BI (including DAX); exposure to Tableau a plus

• Working knowledge of the Azure data platform (Azure Synapse, Databricks, ADLS Gen2) and SQL Server

• Exposure to ETL/orchestration tools such as Azure Data Factory and Databricks Workflows (Jobs)

• Exposure to payments or mobile payments data (e.g., transaction and authorization data) a plus

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
