Meet Your Future Neighbors

In conjunction with product management and design, the engineering team at Nextdoor is responsible for bringing to life the experiences that empower neighbors to build stronger communities and transform how people connect and engage with their local area. Working in small cross-functional teams, you’ll work in an agile environment that values code quality, learning quickly, and personal growth through collaboration and challenge.

You will collaborate with front end, back end, data science, infrastructure, and machine learning engineers to collectively improve the state of engineering at Nextdoor. All engineers are invited to join co-ops to facilitate continuous modernization and knowledge sharing.

At Nextdoor, we operate in an AI-first environment and expect every team member to actively use AI tools as part of their workflow. We aren't looking for prompt engineers; we’re looking for people who use tools like Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, and Glean to challenge their own thinking and take full ownership of AI-assisted outputs.

We also offer a warm and inclusive work environment that embraces a hybrid employment model, blending an in office presence and work from home experience for our valued employees. The hiring team will go over these expectations with you if you are being considered for a role near one of our offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, New York, and London.

The Impact You’ll Make

As a Fullstack Engineer on Nextdoor’s Local Conversations team, you’ll join the Rewards & Incentives pod and help build product experiences that encourage meaningful participation in neighborhood communities. You’ll work across the frontend and backend, with a strong focus on building high-quality web experiences using React and Python/Django.

You’ll contribute to two evolving product areas to start. This is a highly hands-on engineering role. You’ll contribute to entity-relationship modeling, solution architecture, implementation, testing, and iteration, while partnering with product, design, and engineering teammates.

You’ll also participate in team operating practices, including a gradual on-call shadow rotation after onboarding and ramp-up. The team will review role-specific expectations with candidates during the hiring process.

What You’ll Bring to The Team

  • Experience building and shipping software in a production environment
  • Strong frontend fundamentals and experience with modern JavaScript and React. This is an important part of the role
  • Experience with a server-side web application language; Python/Django experience is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with SQL and developing across frontend and backend systems
  • Ability to break down product requirements, collaborate on technical approaches, and implement maintainable solutions
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment
  • Interest in contributing ideas and product perspective, not just executing predefined tasks
  • 2+ years of software development experience and a demonstrated ability to own projects with increasing independence. Level will be determined based on experience and demonstrated proficiency
  • Experience with Storybook or other component-driven development practices is a plus
  • Eagerness to explore and apply AI tools and emerging technologies to reimagine how work gets done
  • Willingness to participate in in-person Nextdoor events such as trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and team building exercises, as applicable to your location
  • Interest in building relationships with teammates and contributing to Nextdoor’s culture
