Forward Deployed Engineer
✨ AI Summary
Rebuild, an AI-powered restoration software company, is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer in New York. The role involves full-stack development and on-site customer implementation, requiring proven startup experience shipping production code. Compensation includes a $120,000 to $150,000 salary plus generous equity.
About Rebuild
America in the 21st Century has seen an increase in frequency and intensity of natural disasters. Communities are dramatically changed in the matter of a few hours, and its homeowners can be displaced from their homes for years.
Rebuild is an operating system for restoration contractors who specialize in mitigating damage to homes and rebuilding them after disasters hit. Disasters can take many forms. While catastrophic events likely come to mind immediately, smaller-scale damage (such as floods, fires, mold, etc.) can also be a nuisance and displace homeowners.
AI is empowering us to meet this moment. Our initial product enables contractors to generate insurance-compliant estimates in just a few minutes, allowing them to properly get reimbursed for the work they do, get to more jobs, and repair more homes. Previously this process could take weeks and would result in very low margins for the restorer.
This is just our first step towards improving the everyday efficiency of these contractors. Climate change estimates over $210 Billion dollars in damages to property, and Rebuild is tackling the massive opportunity to help restorers move more efficiently and accurately, starting with the estimate.
We raised our Series A in Q3 2026 from Asymmetric Capital Partners with follow-ons from our earlier investors, Gutter Capital and 25Madison.
What you’ll do at Rebuild
We're hiring our first forward deployed engineer. You'll apply AI to our customers' hardest problems from inside their accounts rather than from a ticket queue.
You'll fly out, sit with restoration contractors in their offices and on disaster sites, and watch how properties are actually restored, work is documented, and estimates actually get written. Then you'll find the gaps and build the fix that applies our tools to solve their problems.
This is a high-ownership role. You'll navigate ambiguity and work with the entire company, from engineering to customer success, and just as often with the owner-operator on the other side.
You'll own
Deployment & implementation: Getting new accounts from signed to fully up and running. You'll handle whatever it takes to make Rebuild fit the way each customer already works.
Custom builds: Prototyping and shipping account-specific solutions fast, then working with product and engineering to fold the winners into the platform. What starts as one customer's workaround becomes everyone's feature.
Field-to-roadmap feedback: Turning what you learn on site into specs and priorities the whole company acts on. You're the shortest path between a contractor's problems and a shipped fix.
What we're looking for
Every person on the product team owns large, ambiguous problems end to end, and so will you.
- A proven track record shipping production code and comfortable sitting across the table from customers. You've done both, at a startup.
- Full-stack development and self-sufficient. You can build the backend, the UI, and the data plumbing without waiting on anyone.
- Comfortable with ambiguity. You can scope your own work from a single customer conversation and start building.
Bonus points
- You've had a flood, fire, or burst pipe in your own home, and you remember what the weeks afterward were actually like.
- Mobile experience. Our users aren't at a desk. They're on a phone in a gutted kitchen.
- You've done the unglamorous data work that makes messy real-world inputs usable.
What we offer
- $120,000 - $150,000 annual salary. Estimated salary range is inclusive of multiple levels and will be narrowed in the interview process.
- Generous equity compensation
- Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance
- Flexible Vacation
- The Rebuild team prides itself on our office culture, and we have thoughtful programming, fun events, exposure to our investor network, and continuous learning fireside chats on a regular basis
