Lead Software Engineer - Mainframe

We are seeking an experienced Lead Mainframe Developer with strong expertise in COBOL, CICS, Db2 UDB, and JCL to lead the design, development, maintenance, and modernization of critical mainframe applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead analysis, design, development, testing, and support of Mainframe applications
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Mainframe development teams
• Design and develop solutions using COBOL, CICS, Db2 UDB, JCL, and VSAM
• Perform impact analysis and provide estimates for enhancements and production fixes
• Review technical designs, code, and ensure adherence to development standards and best practices
• Troubleshoot complex application and production issues
• Optimize Db2 queries and application performance
• Coordinate with business analysts, architects, QA teams, and onsite stakeholders
• Participate in release planning, deployment activities, and post-production support
• Drive application modernization, process improvement initiatives, estimation, and project execution
• Ensure compliance with security, audit, and regulatory requirements
• Manage stakeholder communication, status reporting, and collaborate with architects to define scalable and maintainable solutions

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in Mainframe development
• Proficiency in COBOL, CICS, and Db2 UDB
• Expertise in JCL and VSAM
• Background in Mainframe application architecture and development lifecycle
• Skills in SQL and Db2 performance tuning
• Experience handling high-volume transactional applications
• Knowledge of batch and online processing environments
• Familiarity with production support and incident resolution
• Proficiency in English at an Upper-Intermediate level (B2) or higher

Nice to have

• Understanding of IBM z/OS
• Familiarity with Endevor, Changeman, or equivalent source control tools
• Knowledge of MQ Series and REXX
• Skills in File-AID, SPUFI, and SDSF
• Experience with Mainframe modernization initiatives and Agile/Scrum delivery model
