The Opportunity:

We’re looking to fill an opening for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Technology Ops & Support Partners team.

Reporting to the Director, Technology Support Services, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for independently operating, engineering, and improving Aviso’s hybrid infrastructure platforms across Windows, Linux, VMware, Azure, backup/recovery, security, automation, and core infrastructure services. This role combines advanced operational ownership with active participation in infrastructure projects, technical design input, automation, incident leadership, and continuous improvement of platform reliability.

What your day looks like:

  • Own complex incidents, problems, changes, and operational escalations across Windows, Active Directory, Linux, VMware, Azure, backup/recovery, monitoring, and related infrastructure services
  • Lead or actively contribute to infrastructure projects, including platform upgrades, migrations, patching programs, automation initiatives, Azure deployments, DR improvements, monitoring enhancements, and service transition into operations
  • Develop, maintain, and improve automation, scripts, configuration management, and operational tooling using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, SaltStack, Git, Azure DevOps, or similar tools
  • Provide technical design input and implementation support for resilient, secure, supportable infrastructure solutions across hybrid cloud and data centre environments
  • Strengthen operational controls for patching, vulnerability remediation, access management, backups, disaster recovery, monitoring, alerting, audit evidence, and configuration documentation
  • Perform advanced diagnostics across operating systems, identity, virtualization, storage, backup, network, firewall, DNS, certificates, TLS/SSL, HTTP/S, load balancing, and Layer 7 application connectivity
  • Coach less experienced team members through troubleshooting, runbook usage, change execution, documentation, and disciplined operational practices

Requirements

Your experience and skills:

  • 5+ years of proven experience operating and engineering mid-size (1000 assets) or larger production infrastructure environments across Windows Server, Active Directory, Linux, VMware, backup/recovery, monitoring, and hybrid cloud services
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure production services, including virtual machines, storage, networking, identity integration, monitoring/log analytics, security controls, and operational troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated experience independently resolving complex infrastructure incidents, leading technical troubleshooting, implementing approved changes, and contributing to root cause analysis and problem management
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure security, vulnerability management, patching, access controls, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, monitoring, audit readiness, and operational risk reduction
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, SaltStack, Git, Azure DevOps, or similar tools; experience building repeatable operational automation is required
  • Solid networking knowledge, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing concepts, firewalls, certificates, TLS/SSL, HTTP/S, load balancing, packet/log analysis, and Layer 7 diagnostics
  • Experience supporting or integrating containers, Oracle WebLogic, Apache/Tomcat, F5/load balancing, Oracle/Linux platforms, or middleware environments is an asset
  • Relevant Azure certification is required or expected within an agreed onboarding period; Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Network Engineer Associate, Azure Security Engineer Associate, or equivalent hands-on capability is preferred
  • VMware, Linux, Microsoft infrastructure, ITIL, security, or automation certifications are preferred
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset

Salary

This position is posted with an expected salary range of $110,000 - $120,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
