About Stack Builders

We’re Stack Builders, a US software consultancy with offices in New York and Quito. We work with international clients to build high-quality software solutions while investing in our team's growth and development.

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Ecuador team. This is an opportunity for someone with solid technical fundamentals who wants to continue developing their DevOps, cloud, automation, and infrastructure skills in a collaborative software engineering environment.

Initially, you’ll contribute to internal Stack Builders projects, helping us evaluate and improve our technical capabilities. As business needs evolve, you may also provide PTO coverage or transition to supporting one of our client projects.

*IMPORTANT to be considered for this position:

  1. Your application and CV must be in English.
  2. By applying to the job, you confirm you have read and accept our Ecuador Privacy Notice (also available at the bottom of this post). This is mandatory to be considered for our vacancy.

What You'll Do

  • Support cloud infrastructure, deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and development environments.
  • Troubleshoot basic infrastructure, deployment, networking, and application-environment issues.
  • Write and maintain scripts and automation using Bash, Python, or similar tools.
  • Work with Linux/Unix environments and command-line tools.
  • Support containerized applications using Docker.
  • Monitor applications and infrastructure and investigate logs, alerts, and basic performance issues.
  • Assist with cloud infrastructure across platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Follow established processes for security, secrets management, IAM, and operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to improve deployment and development workflows.
  • Use Git and version-control practices as part of day-to-day development.
  • Document technical work, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures.
  • Learn and work with new technologies as projects and client requirements evolve.
  • Use generative AI responsibly to improve productivity, troubleshooting, automation, and technical problem-solving.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

Required Technical Skills

We’re looking for candidates who have practical experience or a solid foundation in:

  • Linux/Unix and command-line environments.
  • Git and version control.
  • Basic scripting with Bash, Python, or a similar language.
  • Fundamental CI/CD concepts, including pipelines, builds, testing, and deployments.
  • Basic knowledge of at least one major cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Networking fundamentals, including HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, ports, and basic TCP/IP concepts.
  • Docker and basic container concepts.
  • Monitoring, logging, or observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, or CloudWatch.
  • Basic cloud security concepts, including IAM, secrets management, and access control.
  • Experience using generative AI tools as part of technical work and problem-solving.

Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
  • CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, CircleCI, or Jenkins.
  • Ansible or other configuration-management tools.
  • AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, or CloudWatch.
  • Infrastructure monitoring, alerting, or incident-response practices.

You do not need to be an expert in all of these technologies. We value strong fundamentals, problem-solving ability, and the ability to learn new tools quickly.

What the Work Looks Like

This is a DevOps-focused role, with approximately:

  • 80–90%: Infrastructure, cloud, CI/CD, automation, monitoring, deployments, and operational support.
  • 10–20%: Scripting and application-related technical support.
  • Little to no frontend development is expected.

No specific industry or domain experience is required. What matters most is your ability to understand technical environments, troubleshoot problems, automate repetitive tasks, and collaborate effectively with software engineers.

What We're Looking For Beyond Technical Skills

Communication & Collaboration

  • Intermediate to advanced English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly with software engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Comfortable asking questions, seeking clarification, and communicating when something is blocked.
  • Ability to document technical work clearly and concisely.
  • Comfortable working as part of a distributed, collaborative team.
  • Problem Solving and Ownership Skills
