You’ll join a talented team at Somnia, working across the core blockchain along with novel protocols leveraging its capabilities:

  • Somnia Agents adding the ability for smart contracts to leverage the latest open-source LLMs and interact with the outside world via headless browsers, powered by on-chain deterministic LLM inference and a decentralised network of agent runners

  • Prophecy an information oracle that can combine parsing of public websites and public data sources into decentralised, auditable attestations about the real world, powering prediction markets, forecasting and new types of financial systems

  • dreamDEX a high-performance DEX with a fully on-chain CLOB leveragingSomnia's core capabilities, targeting centralised exchange characteristics

  • Somnia L1 continued work on the high-performance EVM L1, including working on MEV resistance, privacy, automatic gas sponsorship and 'reactivity' where smart contracts can autonomously invoke themselves based on specific timing or event criteria

About the Role:

dreamDEX makes a hard claim: CEX execution without DEX custody. A fully on-chain CLOB with sub-10ms ambitions, zero trading fees, self-custody and transparent rules, competing head-on with Hyperliquid, Lighter and the large centralised exchanges.

We move customer funds on-chain, where a single settlement error - funds to the wrong account, a mispriced liquidation, a bad fill - have critical impact. Spot is live; perpetuals and event contracts are landing next. Every one of them has to clear a serious quality bar before it touches real money.

You'll own end-to-end testing across the entire system and ensure quality is up to the standard level before anything ships. You've done this on real perpetuals trading systems before, and you know exactly what 'wrong' looks like on an order book.

How We Operate

We move at startup speed with exchange-grade standards. We look for people who are proactive by default: you find the solution before being asked, unblock yourself, and get things done fast without ever trading away quality - on a venue holding customer funds, speed and correctness are both non-negotiable. You take full ownership of your area and treat every problem in it as yours to solve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end test coverage across the system: order matching, settlement, margin and liquidation, deposits and withdrawals, the API surface and the frontend

  • Define the test strategy for every new product and feature before it ships: spot, perps and event contracts

  • Build automated test infrastructure, using AI to multiply your reach: generated test cases, agent-driven exploratory testing and LLM-assisted triage

  • Drive a edge-case testing: partial fills, reorg and oracle-deviation scenarios, liquidation cascades and the agent-driven attack surface (we run a live red-team scope for DoS and exploitation on testnet)

  • Communicate effectively and proactively with other parts of the organisation and drive discussions between different projects. Reporting is a massive part of what you do, you are constantly pushing information to those who need it in order to help them make better decisions.

  • Run regression and load testing against Somnia's throughput and latency profile

  • Drive defect management, ensuring issues are prioritised appropriately, root causes are understood and regressions cannot recur.

Requirements:

Must Have

  • 7+ years of QA experience on perpetuals trading systems: a perp DEX, or a perps CEX combined with strong Web3 experience

  • Fluency in the failure modes of matching engines, settlement and margin systems

  • Automation-first mindset with strong test-engineering skills

  • AI-native working style: you use AI tooling daily to write, generate and triage tests, and you're comfortable testing systems that agents trade on

  • Comfort operating hands-on in a fast-moving environment with significant ownership

Nice to Have

  • Smart-contract testing experience, fuzzing or a security-adjacent background

  • Experience testing REST / WebSocket trading APIs and bot or agent integrations

  • Experience taking a new venue or major trading product through its first launches

Web3 has created a new era of decentralized finance, democratizing financial access. However, it has fallen short in generating mass consumer applications and remains largely centered around finance. We believe blockchain technology is a cornerstone for the future of new, open Internet applications.

Today, there are limits to what you can build on-chain. Many factors constrain this, from the cost of running applications to the fundamental performance limitations of existing blockchains. We believe that new technologies can unlock a new class of real-time applications that normally must be built on Web2 foundations. Enabling these systems to be built on-chain will allow the free movement of businesses and users between online platforms, creating what we call a true virtual society.

We are building Somnia, a fast and cost-effective EVM-based blockchain, to achieve this. Somnia is a layer-one blockchain with full EVM compatibility, capable of processing over 400,000 transactions per second with sub-second latency and low fees. This will unlock a new wave of on-chain applications. Initially, we are focusing on gaming, metaverse, and social experiences. But we are not even 100% certain of what can be built with the technology we are creating.

Somnia is being developed by Virtual Society Foundation, an independent organisation initiated by Improbable, a British start-up that has been at the forefront of building virtual worlds for over a decade. VSF received initial funding from MSquared, which raised $150 million in funding from a16z crypto, SoftBank, Mirana Ventures, CMT Digital, and SIG.
