Senior Python Developer

Our client is a financial organization building a new portfolio management system from the ground up. This is a fully greenfield initiative: the infrastructure and core backend services are being created from scratch rather than extending or maintaining a legacy platform.

The immediate focus is developing the Python backend and establishing reliable connectivity with Bloomberg for market data ingestion, while building the data and cloud infrastructure required to support the platform.

Role Overview

As a Senior Python Developer, you will play a key role in designing and building the backend architecture of this new portfolio management platform.

You will develop Python services and APIs, integrate financial market data through Bloomberg, and work with technologies including PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and Azure. You will collaborate directly with engineering stakeholders during U.S. East Coast hours, making this a highly hands-on role with significant ownership and visibility.

The initial objective is to deliver a working MVP, with the platform expected to evolve toward AI-enabled capabilities as it matures.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services and APIs in Python from scratch.
• Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot Bloomberg API integrations for reliable market data ingestion.
• Design and maintain the application's data layer using PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Work with Snowflake as the cloud data warehouse.
• Support and evolve the platform's infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
• Design backend components with scalability, reliability, maintainability, and performance in mind.
• Troubleshoot technical and integration issues in close collaboration with engineering stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering quality and best practices.
• Collaborate live with the engineering team during U.S. East Coast working hours.
• Contribute to the evolution of the platform as it expands beyond the initial MVP.

Requirements

• Strong professional experience with Python, particularly backend and API development.
• Hands-on experience integrating with the Bloomberg API.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing and developing backend systems and APIs in production environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a greenfield environment, where architecture and infrastructure are being built from scratch.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate directly with technical stakeholders and work with a high degree of autonomy.
• Ability to consistently work U.S. East Coast hours. This is required due to daily live collaboration with the client team.
• Professional English communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure.
• JavaScript knowledge.
• Previous experience in capital markets, investment management, hedge funds, financial services, or market data products.
• Interest in AI/ML and the development of AI-enabled financial applications as the platform evolves.
