Senior Data Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to strengthen our data team in the financial services industry. You'll take ownership of end-to-end data solutions on Azure and Databricks, shape how we model and govern data across Bolder Group, and act as a technical reference point for less experienced colleagues.
This role suits a professional who works independently, gives shape to ideas and concepts, and takes care of the implementation and improvement of data sources — with only sporadic feedback needed.
What you'll do
Own data pipelines end-to-end – Design, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, clean, transform, and load data from various sources into Azure data stores and Databricks clusters using Python, SQL, and PySpark.
Design data models & the Enterprise Dimensional Model – Build models that support a single source of truth and are optimized for Power BI and downstream analytics.
Architect data solutions on Azure – Translate business requirements into scalable solutions using Databricks, Data Lake Storage, SQL Database, and Logic Apps.
Data management & governance – Champion data quality practices, master/reference data, data catalogue, and data publishing; help implement governance and security controls across Bolder's data platform.
Performance, cost & CI/CD optimization – Continuously monitor and improve pipeline performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, and apply CI/CD best practices to data pipeline development, including version control, automated testing, and deployment.
Coach & mentor – Guide junior data engineers, review their work, and share knowledge across the team.
Innovation – Identify improvement opportunities, contribute to setting them up, and drive their implementation.
What you bring
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, ideally including cloud-based projects.
Azure services – strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database, and Logic Apps; able to design end-to-end architectures.
Databricks & Data Lake – at least 2 years of hands-on experience with Databricks, including the Lakehouse concept, Delta Lake, and performance tuning.
Data modelling – strong grasp of star schema, Medallion architecture, and building models for BI consumption.
Programming – proficiency in PySpark, SQL, and Python.
CI/CD – solid grasp of CI/CD principles with hands-on experience in version control, automated testing, and deployment.
Data governance – experience implementing data quality, lineage, and cataloguing practices (e.g. Unity Catalog).
English – confident written and verbal communication with technical and business stakeholders.
Mindset – ownership-driven, structured, and comfortable coaching others.
Familiarity with APIs and integration with market data providers.
Nice to have
Exposure to Machine Learning workflows (a plus, not a requirement)
Databricks certification – a relevant Databricks certification is an advantage.
