Software Engineer - Traffic (ASE)

As a Traffic Engineer, you will orchestrate the design and development of cutting-edge traffic components. Our work ranges from network proxying and load balancing to security, routing, and quality of service. These components power Apple services at an unprecedented scale for hundreds of millions of users worldwide. In this role, you'll be instrumental in enhancing our network stack for improved secure service networking and fo ingress and egress functionality, helping architect the backbone of Apple.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field
• 4+ years of experience in software engineering
• Skilled with one or more advanced programming language such as Go, Java, Rust, C or C++
• Experience building large scale distributed systems
• Full product lifecycle ownership mindset (design → implementation → production)

Preferred Qualifications

• Traffic and Edge: Professional expertise in Traffic/Edge Engineering or Cloud Networking
• Expertise with Open Source such as Envoy, Istio, or DPDK: Experience developing and deploying components for Envoy, including but not limited to EnvoyGateway and other proxy-related services. Experience working with packet processing tools.
• Proficiency in Kubernetes: Experience with Kubernetes for orchestrating microservices, with knowledge of deployments, services, network policy, ingress and custom controllers.
• Experience with Cloud Platforms: Experience with one or more major public cloud providers, including provisioning, networking, load balancing, and managed infrastructure services.
• Infrastructure Traffic Experience: Familiarity with traffic management patterns, including mesh, service discovery, load balancing, observability, and security in modern distributed systems.
• API Design: Ability to design RESTful APIs and gRPC services for integration with internal and external systems.
• Collaborative Mindset: Strong communication skills with an ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams.
• Experience with Large-Scale Distributed Systems: Experience in designing and maintaining large-scale systems that handle significant volumes of traffic across complex infrastructure setups. This includes knowledge of performance tuning, resource management, and the ability to scale systems efficiently.
