Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive cloud platform, and our Worldwide Public Sector team helps mission-driven organisations use the cloud to scale their impact. Within Public Sector, our Regional Public Sector team works with local authorities and not for profit organisations, from councils delivering essential services for residents to charities supporting vulnerable communities, humanitarian causes and the people who rely on them every day.

As an Associate Solutions Architect supporting Local Government and Not for Profit customers, you will work alongside experienced Solutions Architects, Account Managers, Partners and Professional Services to help customers achieve their mission outcomes with AWS. You will work directly with customer technical teams, including IT managers, developers and engineers, to understand their requirements and design and build solutions that meet them. That work includes migrating workloads off ageing on-premises infrastructure, modernising resident and supporter-facing services, transforming contact centres and engagement channels with Amazon Connect, building generative AI prototypes that help frontline staff and volunteers work more effectively, and setting up data platforms that help organisations make better use of the information they already hold. You will help deliver hands-on customer sessions such as Immersion Days, workshops and build days, and you will grow your technical depth and customer skills through mentoring, training and real customer work.

Local Government and Not for Profit customers deliver their missions with high public expectations, often with tight budgets and small technology teams. They answer to residents, donors, trustees and the communities they serve, so their technology investments need to deliver clear outcomes. This role suits someone early in their career who is curious, keen to learn and motivated by purpose. You should enjoy getting hands-on with technology, explaining technical ideas clearly, and seeing how the solutions you help build make a real difference to people's lives.

Key job responsibilities
Support a portfolio of Local Government and Not for Profit customers as part of an account team, providing technical guidance across migration, modernisation, data and analytics, AI/ML and security, working alongside senior Solutions Architects

Work with Account Managers on technical discovery and solution design, helping customer opportunities progress from early conversations through to production launch

Help deliver customer-facing technical sessions such as Immersion Days, workshops, architecture deep dives and generative AI build days, and build proofs of concept that show customers what is possible

Design and build solutions to customer requirements, including resident and supporter-facing digital services, contact centre and engagement platforms built on Amazon Connect, payment and donation systems, case management and grant applications, and data platforms that bring together operational and service data

Share what you learn by contributing to technical content such as blog posts, sample code, reference architectures and workshops for the public sector and not for profit community

Collaborate with specialist SAs, AWS service teams and Partners to deliver solutions, and pass customer feedback and feature requests to AWS product teams

Build your skills through AWS certifications, training and mentoring, and contribute to the wider SA community by sharing knowledge with peers

A day in the life
No two days look the same, but a typical one blends hands-on technical work with customer time. You might spend the morning with a council's IT team, working through how to move an ageing on-premises application to AWS. Later, you join a charity's build day, helping their developers prototype a generative AI assistant that answers supporter questions. Between customer sessions, you make time to build a proof of concept, work towards your next AWS certification, or pair with a teammate on a tricky technical problem. The balance shifts week to week, but the thread running through it is the same: you are learning fast, building things that work, and helping customers see what is possible for the communities they serve.

About the team
The team you'll join covers mission-driven organisations across Education, Local Government, Not for Profit and the United Nations. You will focus on Local Government and Not for Profit, working with councils, charities and community organisations that deliver essential services to residents and support some of the most vulnerable people in society. Our customers are mission-driven and accountable. They protect sensitive personal data about residents, service users and supporters, run long-established systems alongside new digital services, and answer to the communities, donors and trustees they serve.

We are a mix of early career and experienced Solutions Architects who build strong technical relationships with our customers. We work closely with Account Managers, AWS Professional Services and Partners, and we lean on one another for peer review, whiteboarding and support on difficult problems. You will work alongside senior SAs who will help you grow. Because the wider team covers such a broad range of customers, from universities to UN agencies, you will have plenty of chances to learn from different missions and technical challenges.

We value ownership, curiosity and a willingness to learn. Our customers bring us real problems, from migrating core council systems to building generative AI assistants for charity helplines, and we take pride in going deep to solve them. We invest in your development through mentoring, training, AWS certifications and hands-on customer work. We also invest heavily in AI-assisted workflows that let us spend more time focusing on and collaborating with customers.

The role is based at one of our UK corporate offices and includes on-site time with customers for engagements such as Immersion Days, workshops and build days.

If you want to start your career alongside people who genuinely care about their customers' missions, hold themselves to a high technical standard, and treat every engagement as a chance to make a real difference to communities, this is the team for you.
