Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Software Engineering department, working on the ZEMA Enterprise Platform. You will own features implementation and production releases and investigation end to end, with growing influence over design and engineering practices. The work is a combination of application development and product support. You will collaborate daily with engineers, product management, business analyst and client-facing teams across India, North America and Europe, so some working-hour overlap with those regions is expected.

What You'll Be Doing

You will own work from first investigation or requirement analysis to production release as the entire SDLC.

Development

· Design, build and maintain features in ZEMA's web applications and APIs (REST, SOAP, OData), from requirements through release.

· Build and extend data adaptors and batch jobs that connect ZEMA to client and market systems, such as Kafka, Azure Service Bus, cloud storage, ETRM databases and third-party REST APIs.

· Design and tune SQL against Oracle, including schema changes, data-fix scripts and query performance work.

· Contribute to the containerization and EKS migration: Dockerfiles, Kubernetes manifests, CI/CD pipeline changes and UAT validation.

· Deliver backend and UI features for other surrounding projects to support business operation and data analysis.

Production Support

· Own client-escalated issues and performance problem end-to-end: reproduce, investigate the root cause in logs, data or code, ship the fix and write clear updates for support and client-facing teams.

· Diagnose production issues and performance problems.

· Support upgrades and patch releases across UAT and production, including post-upgrade regressions and security vulnerability remediation.

· Turn recurring issues into permanent fixes, monitors or automation, and contribute to incident reviews.

Engineering Practices

· Break down and estimate work in from requirements, report progress, and perform peer code view

· Automate engineering workflow wherever it pays off: deployments, environment checks, data scripts and monitoring.

· Use AI-assisted development tools to move faster, while applying your own judgment on correctness and security.

What You'll Bring

Essential

· 3–6 years of professional software engineering, including hands-on support of Java applications running in production.

· Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

· Strong core Java (collections, concurrency, JVM memory and GC basics) and hands-on Spring (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, dependency injection), with experience building server-side web applications on Tomcat or a similar container.

· Strong practical skills and design in ExtJs (Sencha), JSP and React.

· Strong SQL and query tuning on a relational database, ideally Oracle, plus experience with JDBC, as well as Postgres, DynamoDB.

· Designing and consuming REST services, working knowledge of SOAP, and OData.

· A track record of root-causing production issues from logs, metrics and code, not only reproducing them locally.

· Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins and core AWS services.

· Both Git and subversion-based workflows, pull-request reviews, unit and integration testing, and Agile planning in Jira.

· Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, effective stakeholder coordination, and strong ownership and accountability.

Desirable

· Hands-on AWS EKS, Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code experience.

· Elasticsearch/Kibana or CloudWatch for dashboards, alerting and log analysis.

· Messaging and integration platforms such as Kafka, Azure Service Bus or TIBCO EMS.

· Authentication and SSO standards: SAML, OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.

· Python, and exposure to ML pipelines or LLM-based tooling (for example AWS Bedrock, agent frameworks or MCP).

· Practical experience with AI coding assistants.

· Background in energy or commodity market data, forward curves or ETRM systems.
