We're looking for a Lead EKS Platform Engineer to take ownership of autoscaling, policy governance, and release automation for a Kubernetes environment hosted on Amazon EKS. The position encompasses enabling pod and node autoscaling, enforcing admission-time policies via Gatekeeper and OPA, and managing GitOps releases using Argo CD and Terraform. The deployment follows an AWS cloud-native approach, incorporating multi-architecture node pools and custom tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Enable and fine-tune horizontal and vertical pod autoscaling so that workloads scale with demand while avoiding over-provisioning
  • Set up Karpenter provisioners to manage node lifecycle and optimize sizing based on workload needs
  • Confirm autoscaling performs correctly across multi-architecture node pools covering AMD64 and ARM64
  • Create Gatekeeper constraints and constraint templates to enforce cluster-wide policies at admission time
  • Set up mutating admission configurations to ensure policy defaults are consistently applied across namespaces
  • Manage GitOps release processes using Argo CD, including promotion gates and automated rollback mechanisms
  • Maintain Terraform modules to reproducibly provision cluster infrastructure and policy baselines
  • Enhance custom tooling that supports the release process to minimize manual effort

Requirements

  • Over 5 years of experience working with Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Kubernetes
  • Strong expertise in Karpenter for managing node lifecycle and optimizing workload sizing
  • Strong expertise in Argo CD and Terraform for GitOps-based release management and infrastructure automation
  • Advanced understanding of Open Policy Agent for enforcing policies at admission time
  • English language proficiency at B2 level or above

Nice to have

  • Experience with AWS Cloud Development Kit
  • Knowledge of Argo Rollouts and Helm
  • Experience in CI/CD practices
